Special holiday wishes from our Yep Roc artists!

...and check below for some great holiday gift ideas!

We asked our Yep Roc artists to share their favorite holiday memories and pictures, and here's what they responded with:

John Doe

By Dec 20th most people feel akin to this bicycle, pinned to the dirty sidewalk by unwrapped but dying Christmas trees. Remember all the others who really suffer, and take comfort that your tribulations are just that.
Don't forget to breathe.

Merry Xmas, and to all a good night.

American Princes

Christmas came early for us this year. In May, we found ourselves in Atlanta, playing a festival with The Moaners, De La Soul, the Flaming Lips, and Big Star. Being as how we were the least enticing band on the bill, we got one of the first slots of day, which meant that we were all good and drunk by the time Big Star played. The sun was setting as they ran through "Thirteen," and no matter how long I live I doubt I'll have many better memories than that. Except for this: I looked across the stage and saw Luke (our 6'4" bassist) putting on a one-size-fits-all Santa Claus costume. He'd elected to be a part of the Flaming Lips' stage show and was busy getting into character.

After Big Star, Luke was hanging around backstage and bumped into Alex Chilton. He made small talk, telling him about how much we all like his music, how glad we were to see them live, and all that. Chilton, almost a foot shorter than the gargantuan, chain-smoking Santa that had appeared before him, simply said "I'm glad it did it for you," in the most nonchalant manner possible.

It's a small thing, but when we first started this band, the one overarching goal we had was to someday dress up the bass player as Father Christmas and have him converse with one of the greatest living songwriters. Truthfully, whatever goes down on December 25th, 2006, is going to pale in comparison.

God bless us, everyone.

Kristin Hersh

This is my 4-year-old son, Bodhi. We just gave him a wetsuit because he's *obsessed* with snorkeling and scuba diving. He's forever wandering around the house wearing a wetsuit, mask and snorkel - and even fins (if I don't catch him first) - he's usually carrying a net bag of realistic rubber coral reef fish. He sees everything through his scuba diver eyes and when he caught sight of this year's first candy cane , his only thought was,
"Look! A striped snorkel!" I had to have that picture...

Happy Holidays and lots of love from Kristin Hersh & family!

Dolorean's Al James

It's Christmas-times again and whenever I go home to my mom's place in old Silverton, Oregon (little logging town that it is up in the hills of the Cascade Range) I reach for my two favorite collections of Christmas music. My first, deepest Christmas musical memory is of Evie. Her full name is Evie Tornquist and she came out in the eighties with her Christmas album, Come On Ring Those Bells.
She's Norwegian and was singing Christian-style soul/R&B music way before Sandi Patti and Amy Grant. Her main jam is the title track "Come On Ring Those Bells", and she just nails it. "Come on ring those bells/Light the Christmas tree/Jesus is the king/Born for you and me!" She's got a great voice and even if you don't believe in Jesus or God or any of that sort of thing you'd still love Evie.

My second favorite Christmas music is by Ron Diller. He's a guy from my hometown. He used to make these cassette tapes with his own finger-picked arrangements of Christmas hymns. He'd sell 'em at the Christmas bazaars in town. He gets in the John Fahey zone with some of these tracks reminding me of Fahey's simple version of songs like "Jesus Loves Me." Now with technology what it is he sells his stuff on CD. It's really nice Christmas music. You can find his stuff a rondillermusic.com.
