Spark's 10 for 10 2nd half...

intermission - tried to touch base w/said friend (who apparently was 'round the corner bar having a few beers while waiting for curtain call...), gave up & went back in for the second half. Flashpoint Theatre Company's "Drive Angry" written by Matt Pelfrey, directed by Erin Lucas and played well by Nathan Edmonson (Chemo-boy) and Nate Robertson (Rex-the-Mex). Playbill describes the piece as "Road rage acts as therapy for a cancer-stricken youth and his philosophical rebel friend. Drive Angry takes a hard look at why bad things happen to good people and whether we have more control over our freedom than we think." Ignoring this description, I found the piece to be hilarious parody (though on reading this now, I'm wondering if the bulk of the humor was intentional? I can only hope so.) Well played in any case. The Brick Playhouse's "Light Comedy" written by Steve Lippe, Directed by Cat Herbert and played by Natasha Martin & Julie Ann Marra. Described as "a fast-paced, stylized comedy which focuses on the detriorating lesbian relationship of two very distinct women". Natasha Martin was wonderful as the performance artist working in a fish market & her "performance art piece"/audition was hilarious. Julie Ann Marra was good as the ditzy blonde girlfriend having recurring nightmares about a peanut butter sandwich. Next was Luna Theater company's "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do" written by Elle McComsey and directed by Carol Laratonda. "Breaking up is never easy...especially when you're the puppet of a merciless narrator (Peter Miltz). Meet John (Sean Roach) as he desperately struggles through writing a letter to his lost love while being tormented by a sadistic storyteller. Two hysterical characters battle it out with an unfortunate exercise in mime that turns heartbreak into hilarity." With Alexandria Dilks Pandola as the girlfriend. Last, but decidedly not least, was "Two Minute Warning" written by Mark Harvey Levine and directed by John Stanton. "A play by play of a play. Monday Night Football meets Masterpiece Theatre." Absolutely hilarious & wonderfully played by Joe Leduc & Greg Pica. this short piece brought the entire show to an uproarious & succinct end.
