U.S. casualties in Iraq reported in D.O.D. releases 10/28-10/31/05.
Sgt. James Witkowski, 32, of Surprise, Ariz. , died on Oct. 26, near Ashraf, Iraq, of injuries sustained there earlier that day when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV during convoy operations. Witkowski was assigned to the Army Reserve's 729th Transportation Company, Fresno, Calif.
Lance Cpl. Robert F. Eckfield Jr. , 23, of Cleveland, Ohio, and Lance Cpl. Jared J. Kremm, 24, of Hauppage, N. Y. , died Oct. 27 from an indirect fire explosion in Saqlawiyah, Iraq. Kremm died at the scene while Eckfield succumbed to his wounds at a nearby medical center. Both were assigned to 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N. C.
Pfc. Dillon M. Jutras, 20, of Fairfax Station, Va. , died in Al Anbar Province, Iraq, on Oct. 28, from injuries sustained while conducting combat operations. Jutras was assigned to the Army's 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Benning, Ga.
1st Lt. Debra A. Banaszak, 35, of Bloomington, Ill. , died at Camp Victory, Kuwait, on Oct. 28, from noncombat related injuries. Banaszak was assigned to the Army National Guard's 1035th Maintenance Company, Jefferson Barracks, Mo.
Staff Sgt. Lewis J. Gentry, 48, of Detroit, Mich. , died in Mosul, Iraq, on Oct. 26, from a noncombat related cause. Gentry was assigned to the Army's 94th Engineer Battalion, Vilseck, Germany. The incident is under investigation.
Spc. Christopher T. Monroe, 19, of Kendallville, Ind. , died on Oct. 25, in Basra, Iraq, when his 5-ton truck was involved in an automobile accident with a civilian vehicle. Monroe was assigned to the Army Reserve's 785th Military Police Battalion, Fraser, Mich.
Sgt. Evan S. Parker, 25, of Arkansas, Kan. , died at Landstuhl Army Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany, on Oct. 26, of injuries sustained in Balad, Iraq, on Oct. 23, when his dismounted patrol was attacked by enemy forces who threw an explosive device from their moving vehicle. Parker was assigned to the Army Reserve's 1st Battalion, 487th Field Artillery Regiment, 20th Brigade Combat Team, Honolulu, Hawaii.
Master Sgt. Thomas A. Wallsmith, 38, of Carthage, Mo. and Sgt. 1st Class Ramon A. Acevedoaponte, 51, of Watertown, N. Y. died in Rustamiyah, Iraq, on Oct. 26, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their HMMWV. Both Soldiers were assigned to the Army's 3rd Forward Support Battalion, Division Support Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga.
Capt. Michael J. Mackinnon, 30, of Helena, Mont. , died on Oct. 27, in Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV during convoy operations. Mackinnon was assigned to the Army's 4th Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga.
Sgt. Michael P. Hodshire, 25, of North Adams, Mich. , died Oct. 30 of wounds sustained from an improvised explosive device during combat operations near Nasser Wa Salaam, Iraq on Oct. 29. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N. C.
Col. William W. Wood, 44, of Panama City, Fla. , died in Baghdad, Iraq, on Oct. 27, when he was directing security operations in response to the detonation of an improvised explosive device. During this response, a second improvised explosive device detonated near his position. Wood was a regular Army soldier assigned to the Army National Guard's 1st Battalion, 184th Infantry Regiment, Modesto, Calif.
